FL Speaker series: Chiara Cordelli
Chiara Cordelli (University of Chicago) will visit the Fair Limits project, and talk about two chapters in her upcoming book The Privatized State (2020). Firstly, we discuss a chapter on philantropy, that argues that under conditions of widespread inequality philanthropy should be understood as a means (and a transitional duty) of reparative justice. Secondly, Cordelli will present the main argument of the chapter on privatization, which argues that, after a certain threshold, the privatization (outsourcing) of public functions amounts to the alienation of democratic self-rule. On this basis, Cordelli then defends some constitutional limits to privatization.
This event is aimed at invitees only.
