Workshop Tackling climate change and inequality together
Fair Limits will host a hybrid workshop Tackling climate change and inequality together – problems, policies and politics on 16–17 February 2021.
There has been growing recognition in recent years of the multiple linkages between socioeconomic inequalities and rising greenhouse gas emissions. Reflecting these linkages, there has been a growth in advocacy of and support for “Green New Deal”-style integrative policy programmes. These programmes combine state-led investments in decarbonisation and climate resilience with progressive socioeconomic reforms spanning energy, food, housing, healthcare, and the labour market. They also reflect a radically different approach to the politics of climate action compared with traditional approaches that seek to tackle these issues separately.
The Fair Limits Project will host a workshop on 16–17 February 2021 that will bring together leading academics, public officials and campaigners from across the Atlantic to discuss these linkages. Related to the workshop, a public lecture as part of the University’s sustainability lecture series will be delivered by Professor Julia Steinberger from 20:00–21:30 on Tuesday 16 February.
