Are there limits to wealth according to the Dutch?
Last month, we shared an article by Ingrid Robeyns, Tanja van der Lippe, Vincent Buskens and Nina Vergeldt that was published in ESB, a Dutch journal for economists. Now, a translation into English is available. The article is based on an empirical study by the authors and addresses the question how people in the Netherlands think of limits to wealth. The Dutch make a distinction between ‘rich’ and ‘extremely rich’. Extreme riches itself is not seen as a problem, but its negative consequences are. There is widespread support for the greater taxation of riches, if this would improve the situation of the least well-off in society.
